Idina Menzel Talent Bio:
Idina Kim Menzel an American singer-songwriter and actress. She claimed her way to fame when she played the role of Maureen Johnson in the Broadway musical Rent. She was nominated for a Tony Reward for her performance in Rent in 1996. She won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her role as Elphaba in the Broadway musical Wicked. In 2014 she was honored with the Breakthrough Artist Award at the Billboard Women in Music awards.She is also known for her Role on Fox TV series Glee. In 2013 she starred as the voice of Elsa the Snow Queen in Disney’s highest grossing animated film Frozen. The song “Let It Go” won a academy award and was grammy nominated, reaching No. 5 on the Billboard 100 chart .Menzel is the only Tony Award winning actress to ever reach the top 10. In 2014 she released her album Holiday Wishes which reached No. 6 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
Born in New York, she grew up in Syosset. She used to be a wedding and bar mitzvah singer while attending New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. In 1995 Menzel auditioned for Rent which was her Broadway debut. After her much success with rent she released her first album Still I Can’t Be Still on Hollywood Records and performed at the Lillith Fair in 1998 . She continued to do musicals and was nominated for Drama Desk Award for her performance as Kate in the production of Andrew Lippa’s The Wild Party. She’s also starred in Broadway muscials such as Hair, The Vagina Monologues, See What I Wanna See, and If/Then. In her run she was the highest paid female performer in the West End at $30,000 per week. Menzel headlined the musical Nero in 2008.
In 2004 she released her second album Here which was independently released. She featured on The Other Sister and the ABC dramedy Desperate Housewives. Menzel was also on Ray Charles’s album Genius and Friends on the song “I Will Be There” in 2005. On Beowulf she sung the end credits song “A Hero Comes Home”. She released her third solo album I Stand released in 2008. It reached No. 58 on the Billboard 200, her first solo album to make the charts. In 2010 Menzel performed at her “Barefoot at the Symphony Tour”. She returned to London in 2011 to perform a one night only concert at the Royal Albert Hall.
The year of 2013 Menzel voiced Elsa in the movie Frozen. The highest rated family film in 2013. She performed Let It Go at the 86th Academy Awards and the song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. She released her Album Holiday Wishes in October of 2014, it reached number 10 on the Billboard 200 which mad her the highest charting album as a solo lead artist also marked her the first woman to have three different albums reach the top 20 within 10 months of the release date.
